The Craftsman
German Precision. Hawaiian Soul.
The Craftsman
Born in Germany in 1962, Gerhard Osterberger began his journey into woodworking through the rigorous traditional German apprenticeship program — a three-year immersive training in Bavaria that few craftsmen outside of Europe ever experience.
Under the guidance of master craftsmen, he learned the art of old-world joinery, hand-finishing techniques, and the deep respect for wood that defines his work to this day. Upon completing his apprenticeship, Gerhard traveled as a journeyman, refining his skills across workshops and gaining a breadth of experience that would set the foundation for his career.
The Islander
In 1989, Gerhard made the bold move to Hawaii, drawn by the beauty of the islands and a desire to start fresh. It was here that he discovered the extraordinary native woods that would transform his craft — Hawaiian Koa, prized for its stunning grain and rich color, and Mango, with its unique character and warmth.
Today, Gerhard combines his German precision with an island-inspired aesthetic, specializing in challenging projects that push the boundaries of woodworking. From concept to completion, every piece reflects his unwavering attention to detail and passion for creating works that will endure for generations.
